CITY POLICE NEWS RELEASE
************************ Around 4 a.m. this morning a car operated by Ghislam Langelier, age 42, of 54 Market Street was involved in an accident with a train.
It is alleged that Mr. Langelier stopped for the flashing lights at the railway crossing on Wellington Street West and then proceeded to cross the tracks.
A Huron Central train was reversing on the tracks and struck the pickup truck driven by Mr. Langelier and caused the truck to move along the tracks coming to a rest just south of John Street.
Mr. Langelier was extremely lucky in that he received no injuries.
The damage to his pickup truck is noted as being severe.
He has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with disobey railway-crossing signal-procced unsafely.
The public is reminded to obey the flashing lights at all train crossings.
They are there for your protection and to alert you to the danger and presence of an approaching train.
When at a crossing where the trains are being switched in the yard, pay close attention.
They can suddenly change their movement from forward to reverse.
A train cannot stop quickly. Don’t take it for granted that just because the train may be slow moving it cannot do any harm.
