LAIRD FAIR

*************************
The 2016 Laird Fair is preparing to stage its annual three-day fair, which begins Friday August 19th, at the Laird Fairgrounds on Lake George Road, about 25 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie.

North Shore Agricultural Society (NSAS) organizers promote agriculture yearly at the fair, and this event provides urban residents with opportunities to get a taste of country life in several ways, including through horse shows, animal exhibits and demonstrations.

The Laird Fair kicks off Friday night at 5 p.m. with the commencement of a Softball Tournament, a once favourite event of the Laird Fair. Teams of up to 14 players are invited to register for this weekend long event by contacting Kelly @ 705-248-2280, Sheri @ 705-248-1335 or Don @ 705-987-0994.

The start of the Kids Speed Show also kicks off at 6 p.m. (registration at 4 p.m.). The Ride will also be providing a night of
entertainment full of high energy and solid country/country rock music in the Budweiser Bandstand!

A free bus ride home will be available for concert goers both Friday night and Saturday night.

pancake breakfast will be served starting around 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday afternoon will also feature several new events including a Tack Swap/Tailgate Garage Sale that's open to the public starting at 11 a.m., and a Pleasure & Halter Show starting at 9 a.m.

Other activities planned for Saturday include Speed Shows, Tractor Pulls, a Chicken Competition, petting zoo, indoor exhibits and various activities for the kids, to name just a few.

Our chicken dinner proudly sponsored by Muio's, begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, with more entertainment scheduled for later that night provided by The Cloud Bandits, Bar River’s No.1 rock band for over 17 years, set to light it up all night long in the Budweiser Bandstand.

Activities continue Sunday with the return of the Laird Fair Extreme Ranch Horse Competition, a heavy horse pull, Dog Obstacle Competition and more fun activities for the kids, among other events are also planned for the day, with A Band Named "Soo" closing out the weekend's entertainment Sunday afternoon in the Budweiser Bandstand.

A variety of outdoor vendors will be on-site all weekend long serving up delicious goodies, as well as showcasing their unique products for all to see.

Camping is available for the weekend, for those wanting to stay on the grounds in either a tent or a trailer; electricity is limited.

Admission for the weekend is $5/day or $10 for a weekend pass; kids under 12 will be admitted for $2 or with a canned good that will be donated to a local food bank.

The Laird Fair has also launched a GoFundMe campaign devoted to offsetting the costs of renting or purchasing equipment the Fair uses every year. It is hoped that with the community's support, the Fair can continue to prosper and grow for many years to come.
