Fun, informative events in recognition of Social Services Awareness Week

The week of Aug. 19 to 23, 2019 is Social Services Awareness Week. Community social service agencies have come together with the aim of increasing public awareness about the many programs and services available within our community.

A schedule of events is as follows:

  • Hub crawl (an interactive tour for front line social service workers) - Aug. 19 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Information station at Station Mall - Aug. 20 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Bubbles and Books at Bellevue Park - Aug. 21 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Random Acts of Kindness - Aug. 21
  • Pop-Up Café at 180 Brock St. - Aug. 22 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The week rounds out on Friday Aug. 23 with the 4th annual Game ON Neighbourhood Street Party taking place on Albion Street across from the old Rosedale School. This event will include a barbeque, free children's acticities, basketball and ball hockey, bouncy astles, face painting, and more. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Social services are vital to our community’s health, well-being and prosperity.

Residents of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area are encouraged to join in the fun, participate and enjoy the events scheduled throughout the week.

Local social service agencies participating in Social Services Awareness Week include Sault Ste. Marie and District Social Services, Sault Ste. Marie Police Services, Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, Canadian Mental Health Association, Child Care Algoma, Homelessness Prevention Team, Ministry of Community and Social Services, Algoma Family Services, Algoma Public Health, John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, Children’s Aid Society of Algoma, Indian Friendship Centre and Nogdawindamin.
