Robin Buyers, a spokeswoman for Christian Peacemaker Teams, reports a "noticeable" surge in enquiries from prospective volunteers since four of its members were taken hostage in Iraq on November 26. "There are a lot of people who want to put their belief in human rights and social justice into action but they often don't know how or who with," Buyers told the Canadian Press.

"They have now learned of an organization that does walk the talk and takes the risks that are associated with walking the talk."

It's not easy becoming a Christian Peacemaker team member, though.

You need five references and have to go through a detailed screening process.

After that, you have to undergo two months of full-time training and sign a waiver that indicates you know exactly what you're getting yourself into.
