Friday Mar. 24 is the deadline for qualified applicants to put their name in for the position of Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board director of education.

John Stadnyk, who has served as H-SCDSB director of education since 2005, officially announced his intention to retire, effective June 30, 2017, at the Nov. 16, 2016 board meeting.

“The process is coming to mid point, Mar. 24 is the deadline for applications to be submitted to our consulting firm (Toronto-based Promeus Executive Search) which is doing the actual search for our new director,” said John Caputo, H-SCDSB chair after Wednesday’s board meeting.

“Back in January we started doing a consultation with our constituents, the priests, the teachers, the schools, the community, asking them to describe their best vision of a director, so we developed a profile once we got that information.  We took all that data and gave it to the consultants,” Caputo told SooToday.

Promeus got back to the board with a profile of a new director, based on that input.

“The trustees reviewed that, we tweaked it a bit and we came up with a director profile, then Promeus was given the task of posting the position of director for the board,” Caputo said.

Promeus will be going over the full list of applicants and coming back to the H-SCDSB with a short list of candidates, with interviews to be carried out in April, Caputo said.

“Our schedule is to make an announcement (of a new director) in early May.”

Caputo praised Stadnyk as he prepares to retire.

“John Stadnyk, when he became our director (after serving as a teacher, then a superintendent), there was a lot to learn and he took direction well from the trustees.”

“Our mission statement, he was key in that, the direction we’re taking our schools, he was key in that. He’s the best mediator I’ve ever seen in my life…he doesn’t get personalities involved in the subject, he deals with the points and the relationships are still intact when it’s over.”

“He’s a good example of a great leader,” Caputo said.
