At next week's City Council meeting, Chief Administrative Office Joe Fratesi will recommend a $7,500 City contribution to the Red Cross to help with Asian tsunami relief.

"While the amount is not a huge amount," Fratesi says, "hopefully it will provide an impetus and encouragement to other municipalities to follow suit."

"Sault Ste. Marie represents a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic group of peoples and many in our community will have experienced some personal closeness to those countries adversely affaected," the CAO says.

"The donation will signify that this community's prayers and best wishes go out to those countries along with some funds to be used towards the massive relief efforts which will be required."

The City's $7,500 contribution would come from an account set aside for unforeseen expenses.
