Forestry institute signs deal with biotech organization

Sudbury-based biotech firm Neureka Research Corp. signed a technology-transfer agreement Monday with the Sault's Great Lakes Forestry Centre.

Announced by Neureka president and chief executive officer Magdy Basa (shown) at Monday night's meeting of City Council, the deal will facilitate basic and applied research collaborations between the two institutions.

Also known as the Northern Centre for Biotechnology and Clinical Research, Neureka is currently expanding its Sudbury facilities at Laurentian University to accommodate 49 full-time staff.

It also has a clinical research facility in Timmins and is establishing similar facilities in North Bay, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.

Neureka is involved in the bio-medical, bio-forestry, bio-mining and bio-environment fields.
