Five charged after police raids on Pine and James streets

********************* On Friday June 17 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed two search warrants at two separate residences, which resulted in the seizure of a number of firearms and narcotics.

Just after 1 a.m. members from the Street Team, Investigation Services, Emergency Services Unit, and Patrol Services at attended at 1004 Pine Street.

Officers located a .35 calibre revolver located in a tin box, a blowgun with darts and an expanding asp [example shown in photo is not the actual item seized], both being prohibited weapons.

Officers also located an X-box system, which had been stolen from a break and enter into a home on Passmore Road in March of this year.

Officers also located some cannabis residue, .5 grams of cocaine, 7 grams of marijuana and 18 grams of psilocybin.

The drugs have a street value of approximately $650.

20-year-old Derek Lethbridge of that address has been charged with:

- one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm

- two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon

- one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm

- one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime

- one count of careless use of a firearm, weapon, ammunition

- one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

- one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance

- three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance

The accused will appear in court on July 25. 265 James Street, upstairs

Around 5:30 p.m. officers from the Street Team, Investigation Services, Emergency Services Unit, Canine Unit and Patrol Services executed a search warrant at 265 James Street Upstairs and located an unregistered insecure 410 Mossberg shotgun, a number of .22 rounds of ammunition, three grams of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia.

The cocaine is estimated to be worth $300.

The following person have been charged:

1) An 18-year old male has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of careless use of firearm, weapon or ammunition, one count of breach of firearms regulation, one count of possession for a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Due to the breach of probation under the YCJA the name of the offender cannot be released. He will appear in court on July 25th.

2) 26-year-old Derrick Cadreau of 265 St James Street upstairs has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and two counts of careless use of a firearm, weapon or ammunition. Mr. Cadreau has been in custody and has a court appearance this morning.

3) 23-year-old Shaun Mearow of 2102 Mission Road, Goulais River has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, one count of careless use of a firearm, weapon or ammunition, and one count of breach of firearms regulation. He has also been in custody and will also appear in bail court this morning.

4) 23-year-old Henry Cadreau of 25 Hughes Street has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of careless use of a firearm, weapon or ammunition, one count of unauthorized passion of a firearm and one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. He has also been in custody since the warrant and will appear in bail court this morning.
