The first scientific sampling of opinion on Sault Ste. Marie's mayoral race shows incumbent John Rowswell has a comfortable lead, MCTV News reported tonight.

300 Saultites were interviewed by Oracle Research Ltd. in an MCTV-commissioned poll between October 26 and 28th, Mark Oldfield, executive producer of MCTV News, tells SooToday.com.

Here are the results:

John Rowswell - 43.7% Peter Vaudry - 30.5% Patti Jennings - 20.8% Gary Bedryk - 1.3%

The poll is considered accurate within 5.6 percent.

One-quarter of respondents were undecided, the TV station reported.

Peter Vaudry reminded MCTV's Kim Fewchuk that Oracle Research is the pollster that determined David Orazietti and Tony Martin were in a dead heat in the recent provincial election.

Both Vaudry and Patti Jennings said they expect to be victorious in the November 10 poll.
