It appears Canada Day fireworks are underway on the waterfront.

From the city:

"The fireworks will be going off shortly!"

Despite the rain, it appears the fireworks are still on and scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m.

The following from the city:

"The fireworks are able to go off in the current weather. They are scheduled to go off at 10:30 p.m. tonight. However, if it worsens we will notify you immediately."

9:35 p.m. update

The city says fireworks are still a go, as long as it doesn't start raining again.

The following was just posted to the Roberta Bondar Pavilion Facebook page:

"Fireworks are still going on, unless it begins to rain again."

9 p.m. update
As of about 9 p.m., tonight's fireworks are still a go.

But the city just contacted us to ask that people keep a close eye on the Roberta Bondar Pavilion Facebook page where staff will be posting updates on the status of the fireworks display over the next hour.

Keep your fingers crossed, Sault Ste. Marie!
