Fire hydrant damaged, man charged with impaired

On July 25 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the city police received a call of an erratic driver northbound on Peoples Road and then turning onto Third Line East.

The vehicle then allegedly came into contact with a fire hydrant in the 100 block of Third Line East.

Upon police arrival, the suspect vehicle was located in a driveway in the area of the damaged fire hydrant. Officers also observed damage to the suspect vehicle.

At this time, a male exited the residence allegedly stumbling and nearly falling down.

Further observations led officers to believe the male was intoxicated and further investigation led officers to believe this male was the driver of the suspect vehicle.

At this time he was placed under arrest for impaired driving. Intoxilyzer tests performed later at the City Police Station produced readings more than 3 times the legal limit.

51-year-old Slawomir Jagielnik of Third Line East has been charged with impaired driving and consume over the legal limit. He will be appearing in Provincial Court August 29.
