There were no injuries in two fire-related incidents Sunday afternoon.
Platoon Chief Mike Simon said that 4:12 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services received multiple calls to attend a structural fire on Albert Street West and that smoke was filling up the block.
Upon arrival it turned out that a man was dismantling his shed and burning it piece by piece in his yard.
Firefighters used their line to put the fire out.
The man did not have a permit and Simon said fire inspectors are following up with the incident.
“Everybody is burning but just remember you need a burning permit inside the city. If you’ve never had a permit before, the inspectors may need to come to your home first,” said Simon, who added there may be requirements like having an available water supply in case something goes wrong.
At 6:06 p.m. the fire department received a call from homeowners on the 200 Block of Goulais Avenue saying they had put out a kitchen fire but wanted fire fighters to attend the scene.
The homeowners placed a stereo on their stove top and accidently turned on a burner said Simon.
Fire fighters cleared the house of smoke but besides the stereo there was nothing else damaged he said.
“People should know that they shouldn't be putting stuff on their stove. Just be careful,” said Simon.
There were no injuries in either fire and police were not called in either incident said Simon.
