Boniferro Mill Works at 45 Third Line West will be under a fire watch until at least 8 p.m. after welders accidentally started a sawdust fire there this morning.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services was called to the sawmill at 7:53 a.m.

The fire was declared under control by 8:29 a.m. and firefighters left the scene at 10:49 a.m.

They were called back shortly after noon today to check on the situation.

Some of the burning sawdust fell into a basement beneath the mill and a thermal imaging camera was used there to check for hot spots.

The sawmill wasn't operating today but maintenance work was being done.

Arrangements were made to reset the mill's sprinkler system.

In an unrelated development, firefighters were dispatched this morning to The Summit community church at 424 Second Line East after a significant fuel leak from a vehicle.
