Batchewana First Nation (BFN) will now be able to advance Ojibway language and culture throughout all BFN territories after receiving $152,100 in funding from Canada’s Indigenous Language and Culture fund.
"BFN leadership identify language as a key component of nationhood and have made significant efforts to ensure programs are provided adequate resources," states a news release issued today.
These funds have been used to hire a new teacher for on-reserve daycare, promoting early years and youth centre programs (including costs of cultural materials) for Obadjiwan, Goulais, Rankin and off-reserve membership.
