Extreme cold warning in effect for:

  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
  • Wawa - Pukaskwa Park
  • White River - Dubreuilville
  • Blind River - Thessalon
  • Espanola - Killarney
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Manitoulin Island
  • Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake
  • Gogama - Foleyet

A period of very cold wind chills continues.

Extreme wind chill values near or below minus 40 were reached this morning. Wind chills will be in the minus 30 to minus 35 range today but drop to minus 40 to minus 45 tonight and Friday morning. These extreme wind chill values are expected again Friday night and Saturday morning.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Keep dry to stay warmer.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
