The International Lake Superior Board of Control issued an advisory Friday morning that gate movements planned for next week will lead to St. Marys rapids flows and water levels increasing this month.
As a result, some flooding of low-lying areas of Whitefish Island is possible and some recreation trails could be flooded.
On Lake Superior, water levels rose 7cm in June and water supplies were near average.
The lake-wide water level of Superior is 12cm above the seasonal long-term average and 3cm above its level from one year ago.
The Lake Michigan-Huron basin saw a drier-than-average water supply for the month.
