Wishart Law Firm hosted a charitable event for the benefit of the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Algoma on Tuesday, February 1, 2016 on the occasion of a book signing by former Premier Dalton McGuinty.

“We invited Dalton to Sault Ste. Marie for the local launching of his new book, ‘Making a Difference’, and, with his input, decided that proceeds from the event should go to Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Algoma, a worthwhile local charity.” said Orlando Rosa, Managing Partner at the Wishart Law Firm, who co-organized the event with Matthew Shoemaker, a lawyer at the Wishart Law Firm.

“I am grateful to all the event sponsors who helped raise a significant amount of money for Children’s Rehab,” stated Rosa.

Gord Acton, the Senior Partner at the Wishart Law Firm was equally enthusiastic about the response to the event: “Pairing the book signing with the charity fundraiser helped raise the profile of Children’s Rehabilitation in our community and the money raised goes right into our community.”

The event, which invited sponsors to donate to Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Algoma for admission to the event, raised more than $12,000 for the local organization.

Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Algoma provides programs and services to children and young people aged 0-18 years with long-term disabilities.

Centre staff focus on helping children and youth reach their potential and independence in the areas of physical, perceptual, communication and/or developmental challenges.

McGuinty stated “It was the first time a book signing had been organized with a charitable aspect to it, so when invited by Wishart Law Firm to come to Sault Ste. Marie for this event, I accepted without hesitation.”

Susan Vanagas-Cote, the executive director of the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre of Algoma was at the event to accept the donation, as was Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Foundation chair, Lynda Moffatt.

“Children’s Rehabilitation is extremely grateful for this donation which will go a long way in supporting the needs of users of our services. We are honoured to have been considered as the benefactor of this event. Thanks are extended to Wishart Law Firm for generously hosting the event and to the event’s many sponsors for their donations.” stated Vanagas-Cote.

“We are most pleased that the charity event sold out within two weeks of tickets becoming available. We extend our thanks to the event sponsors, including local businesses and individuals as well as provincial and national business sponsors who were more than happy to contribute,” added Matthew Shoemaker.
