Elliot Lake man died of hypothermia, not drowning

Donald Phillips died last weekend of hypothermia, not drowning, East Algoma OPP disclosed today. On Saturday, police reported that the 47-year-old Elliot Lake man had died after a boat containing three men overturned on Esten Lake.

Donald Phillips died last weekend of hypothermia, not drowning, East Algoma OPP disclosed today.

On Saturday, police reported that the 47-year-old Elliot Lake man had died after a boat containing three men overturned on Esten Lake.

One man was able to swim 50 feet to shore before police got to the scene.

A second man was able to make it after police arrived.

The third man was recovered by the fire department.

After a post-mortem this week, the OPP advise that the cause of Phillips' death was hypothermia.

The investigation is concluded, OPP said in a release.
