Hundreds of Algoma elementary school teachers today held the first information picket in their current contract dispute with the Algoma District School Board.

The teachers, members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), gathered briefly this morning outside White Pines Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

It wasn't a school day.

It was a professional development day for Algoma's combined public and Catholic school systems, and the elementary conference took place at White Pines.

The teachers brandished signs on the Trunk Road sidewalks outside White Pines for about 15 minutes before proceeding inside at 8:45 a.m. for the day's addresses and workships.

Mediated talks are to resume on Monday.

The teachers have been in a legal strike position since March 1.
