Eight people are believed dead in a plane crash near the community of Summer Beaver, OPP at Sioux Lookout report this morning.

Investigators at the crash site say there were no survivors when a Cessna Grand Caravan C208 crashed during what was supposed to be a one-hour flight between Pickle Lake and Summer Beaver.

The plane was carrying six male passengers, one female passenger and a male pilot.

The following news release was issued by Ontario Provincial Police:

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON, Sept. 12 - The Ontario Provincial Police were notified of a plane crash at approximately 11:30 p.m. (Central Time) last night.

The North West Patrol Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police, based out of Sioux Lookout, are investigating the crash of a Wasaya Airways plane, that had been enroute Thursday evening (11 September) from Pickle Lake to the community of Summer Beaver.

The Cessna Grand Caravan C208 had taken off from the Pickle Lake airport at 7:30 p.m. (CT) and was to arrive in Summer Beaver at 8:30 p.m. (CT).

The plane seats eleven and was carrying six male passengers, one female passenger and a male pilot at the time of the crash.

When the scheduled flight did not arrive in Summer Beaver as expected, a Summer Beaver resident notified Wasaya Airways of the overdue plane.

The Trenton Rescue Command Center (RCC) was notified and a military helicopter was deployed to the area.

At 2:10 a.m. (CT) RCC personnel located the downed plane, approximately ten kilometers northwest of the community of Summer Beaver.

Search and rescue personnel were deployed to the crash site from the military helicopter, there were no survivors of the crash, RCC remains on scene. An O.P.P. Emergency Response Team and Forensic Identification Team, along with personnel from the North West Region Crime Unit and North West Patrol Unit are being flown to the scene by the OPP Pilatus aircraft.

An OPP helicopter, military Labrador helicopter and a commercial helicopter are expected to arrive on scene early this morning.

The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and are investigating. No identification of the deceased is being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin. The investigation is continuing.
