A vehicle on fire in the Industrial Park was the source of a lot of highly visible black smoke in the north part of the city this morning, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services tells SooToday.com News.

Loyal reader Dayna Radawetz provided the video shown.

One reader described a City dump truck exploding at the entrance to the City Public Works yard next to the Household Special Waste Facility.

He said after the flames had been extinguished it was obvious that the cab had been destroyed.

Another person working in the Industrial Park told us she heard an explosion and saw flames in the area around 10 this morning.

City CAO Joe Fratesi told SooToday.com that the driver - the lone occupant of the vehicle - was able to get out before being seriously injured.

Fratesi said the long-time City employee was "shaken up" by the incident and taken to Sault Area Hospital as a precaution.

It appears that hydraulic oil leaking onto a hot engine probably caused the fire.

Mike Savino, another faithful reader, sent us this photo.
