********************** Several Timmins resident charged with drug offences after execution of three separate search warrants

(TIMMINS, ON) - On Thursday the 10th of February 2005, two separate drug investigations lead to the execution of three search warrants in the City of Timmins.

1) - The first was an investigation conducted by members of Project "THC" (an OPP lead investigative team comprised of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Timmins Police Service). At approximately 8 p.m., police entered a residence on Elm Street South in the City of Timmins. An adult male and several young persons were located in the residence. The adult male was taken into custody and a search of the residence was conducted. The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of approximately 65 grams of cannabis marijuana, and approximately $800 in cash. The potential street value of the drugs seized is approximately $975.

********************** Charged: Gilbert GROULX Age: 46 Address: 71 Elm Street South, Timmins, Ontario.

Offences: 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

1 count of Breach of Probation Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Release: Not released - Bail Hearing Court: 14 February 2005

********************** 2) The second investigation was conducted by members of the Timmins Police Service with assistance from members of "Project THC" (an OPP lead investigative team comprised of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Timmins Police Service). At approximately 9:45 p.m., police entered two separate residences, one at 241 Balsam Street North (Back house), and the other at 314 Birch Street North (upstairs), both in the City of Timmins. A total of two male subjects, and one female subject were taken into custody and a search of each residence was conducted. The search of the residences resulted in the seizure of 95 grams of cannabis marijuana, prescription medication, and $4200 in cash.

Offences: 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Release: Not released – Bail Hearing Court: 14 February 2005

********************** Charged: FOREST, Donald Age: 28 Address: 314 Birch Street North (upstairs), Timmins, Ontario.

Offences: 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

1 count of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Release: Promise to Appear and Undertaking Court: 26 April 2005
