Driver escapes car fire (update: 6 photos)

Firefighters douse late afternoon blaze

March 21 update:

The vehicle's owner, Ashley Ingram, sent in photos of the car on fire. She says the cause was determined to be mechanical.

March 20 original story:

A driver was able to exit a burning car with no reported injuries say fire officials at the scene of the late afternoon blaze.

Platoon Chief Jeff Lajoie said the woman driving the car told firefighters she noticed smoke while driving next to a school bus on Wellington Street East and made the 'unselfish' move to drive the car into a nearby parking lot before getting out and determining the vehicle was on fire.

Two pumper trucks responded to the blaze in the parking lot adjacent to the John Rhodes Community Centre skate park. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
