The downtown plaza issue will return Thursday to Sault Ste. Marie city council.

The city announced today that a special, short-notice council meeting has been called to discuss tender results for the proposed relocation of the Mill Market to the old Greyhound Canada/Union Cab building at 73 Brock St.

The city acquired 73 Brock two years ago for $395,000.

In June of this year, we learned that the federal government had turned down a request for funding, adding as much as $1.4 million to the city's cost for the project.

Matthew Shoemaker, Ward 3 councillor and mayoral candidate, has been trying to block any decision on the move until it's known whether further attempts to secure federal support for the project are successful.

Also on the agenda for the special council meeting is the promenade boardwalk extension at Bondar Marina.

The special city council meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.
