The Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Association is one of the recipients of $135,000 in FedNor grants announced today by Sault MP Carmen Provenzano.
The organization, formerly known as the Sault Queenstown Association, will get $25,000 to hire a youth intern to work with members and potential members in the organization's expanded service area.
Other FedNor grants announced today by Provenzano:
- $15,000 to the City of Sault Ste. Marie to hire a consultant to develop an international relations strategy. "In view of Sault Ste. Marie's recent international initiatives, this project is timely and worthwhile," Provenzano said. "Trade, especially international trade, is a key component to economic development and prosperity. This project will help define the resources and priorities necessary to manage international relations and develop new trade-related projects."
- $25,000 to the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre to help Algoma University College expand its computer science/information technology department. AUC wants to double the number of student it graduates in these departments, and has proposed a new learning pavilion and information technology centre. The FedNor money will pay for a feasibility study and business plan for the proposed facility.
- $45,000 to Upper Lakes Environmental Research Network to help with the costs of this week's Drinking Water in Northern Communities conference.
