The summer program begins in July and runs for eight weeks

With summer programming coming up, the Every Breakfast Counts program is seeking donations.

The program was launched in 2018 and provides meals to local children,

With food costs having gone up, the demand for the program also has.

Donations can be made online through the Algoma Family Services Foundation.

Sault Mayor Matthew Shoemaker called the program "a tremendous example of the power of community-based programming."

The summer program will begin in July and run for eight weeks and food items - including fresh fruit/vegetables, milk, cheese, and bread - will be distributed.

Last summer, 1,600 lunches per week - 12,800 in total - were provided to local children

“Healthy eating habits have a significant impact on the achievement of optimal health, growth and intellectual development for youth, and the program is essential for ensuring consistent access to nutritious food,” said Emily Tremblay, Community Services Supervisor, Algoma Family Services.

“Sault Ste. Marie has been incredibly supportive of our efforts, and the continued support of the community will ensure we continue to reach thousands of local children.”
