The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie was proud to be able to present a cheque for $12,200 to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation for the purchase of a Paediatric Safety Bed.

"When we saw there was an urgent need for this bed in paediatric care at Sault Area Hospital, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie were among the first people we thought of," said Teresa Martone, Executive Director - Sault Area Hospital Foundation. "Their commitment to supporting the youth of Sault Ste. Marie, especially those with complex medical needs, is known and appreciated by so many in our community. We are so grateful they have funded this critical piece of equipment that will help ensure local kids can get more care here, close to their homes and families."

The safety bed’s adjustable walls prevent slips and falls for toddlers and young children, while accommodating the feeding lines, blood transfusions, catheters, oxygen, and monitors that are essential to caring for complex paediatric patients.

“Today we are very happy and proud to continue to invest in our community and district by donating funding to the SAHF for the purchase of a Paediatric Safety Bed, in order to provide essential care for local children,” shared Donna Carricato, President of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie. “It is very gratifying to use funds raised from our ROTARYFEST Take Your Pick Draw to continue to support the needs in our community. Together we are moving forward to Imagine Rotary in a Better World!”

Over the past 30 years, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has donated more than $200,000 to Sault Area Hospital Foundation to support the delivery of quality care in our community. Founded in 1918, the club’s mandate to support children with physical disabilities has been the heart behind the hard work of hundreds of Rotarians spanning generations. Rotary invests in the Sault’s youth through Rotary Youth Exchange, Algoma Rotary Science Fair presented by Tenaris, Rotary Sports Awards, scholarships, local projects such as the Rotary Adventure Playground at Bellevue Park, and partnerships with THRIVE Child Development Centre and Easter Seals Ontario.
