Dr. Peter Schwarz's hearing before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario comes on the heels of his acquittal six months ago on two charges of sexual assault in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom.
He also is accused of engaging in an act or omission relevant to the practice of medicine that, having regard to all circumstances, would reasonably be regarded as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.
Ontario Court Justice Romuald Kwolek dismissed the criminal charges in May.
"Even though I find the testimony of the complainant to be generally credible, and l have some concerns regarding the testimony of the accused, I am not convinced that the Crown has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt," he said.
A female patient accused Schwarz of fondling her breast and buttock in October 2015.
She also told the court of a second incident she said occurred two months later when she returned to his office to confront him about his behaviour.
A notice of the hearing posted by the college, indicated it was a scheduled to begin Monday, and is expected to continue through Friday.
A regulatory body for physicians and surgeons, the college conducts discipline hearings into allegations of misconduct.
Schwarz is the second Sault Ste. Marie physician to be involved in such a disciplinary action this month.
Last week, Dr. Brian Shamess, a sports physician, was back before the college for the continuation of a hearing on allegations, including sexual abuse of three patients.
It also is alleged that he engaged in an act or omission relevant to the practice of medicine that, having regard to all circumstances, would reasonably be regarded as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.
Shamess's hearing will resume Feb. 25 and 26.
