The Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Network Ontario will be hosting an informal open house to discuss invasive species issues in the Algoma region at the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority’s Sugar Shack at 1100 Fifth Line East from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20.

“We will discuss the work EDRR Network Ontario is currently doing in northern Ontario and hope to gain some insight from those in attendance about what their invasive species concerns are, and how we can work together to address them,” stated an Invasive Species Centre in an email received by SooToday Friday.

Light refreshments will be provided.

“The Sault’s Invasive Species Centre and the Ontario Invasive Plant Council house the EDRR Network Ontario Program. The Early Detection & Rapid Response (EDRR) Network Ontario project aims to train and equip volunteers with the skills and resources needed to better detect and reduce invasive species in Ontario, one community at a time,” the email stated.

Everyone is welcome to attend the open house, which will be of particular interest to gardeners, anglers, professionals and naturalist groups.

"The EDRR Network Ontario program will continue to work with environmental champions in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas. This open house will serve as an opportunity for our community to discuss gaps in information regarding invasive species, resources and tools, and create opportunities for collaboration in the future."

"The EDRR Network is run in collaboration by the Invasive Species Centre and Ontario Invasive Plant Council and is excited to welcome our new partner, the Invading Species Awareness Program. The EDRR Network is generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Visit edrrontario.ca for more information."
