New Democrats will protect affordable child care in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE - Today Celia Ross, NDP candidate for Sault Ste. Marie said that NDP Leader Andrea Horwath’s Mother’s Day announcement to protect affordable childcare spaces is especially important in Sault Ste. Marie as the community stands to lose child care funding under the Liberals.

“Parents in Sault Ste. Marie need support for their children while they go to work. Our community needs more affordable child care spaces but under the Liberals, our community will see cuts to child care funding,” said Ross. “It’s time for a change that makes sense to protect local child care and make sure it’s affordable for hard working parents.”

Ross said the Liberals are planning to cut funding for child care in communities across Northern Ontario.

News broke Friday that provincial funding cuts have forced the city to consider ending the child care services it currently offers.

“Sault Ste. Marie stands to lose another 32 good paying jobs because of this government’s failure to support young families.”

“We are going to stop Liberal plans to cut child care services that Sault Ste. Marie families rely on,” Ross said. “The NDP’s plan will support families by making sure licensed child care is available and affordable in Sault Ste. Marie.”

An NDP government will invest $100-million and annual child care funding to keep pace with inflation.

New Democrats stand up for families by protecting affordable childcare

HAMILTON - Andrea Horwath, Leader of Ontario’s New Democrats, spent Mother’s Day standing up for families with a plan to protect childcare spaces and make them more affordable for hard working parents.

“As a mom, I know there is no greater concern than making sure your child is looked after while parents go to work. Families are telling me there are fewer and fewer affordable childcare spaces in their communities. Our plan will support families by making sure licensed childcare is available and affordable in communities across Ontario.”

“This is a simple step we can take to make life a little easier and a little more affordable for working moms and dads,” said Horwath.

An NDP government will invest $100-million to protect licensed childcare centres and make prices more affordable for families.

Annual funding will keep pace with inflation.

“We’re proud to stand up for families by putting forward solutions that deliver results for middle-class families feeling squeezed,” said Horwath.  “The NDP is focused on creating good jobs, making life affordable, improving healthcare and respecting people’s tax dollars.  It’s time for change that makes sense for families.”
