Reports of a fire at the Sault Area Hospital (SAH) detox centre, located at 911 Queen St. E., have been confirmed.

“There was a kitchen appliance fire and melt-water basement flood at our Withdrawal Management site at 911 Queen Street on Monday, March 9, 2020. At this time, all patients have been relocated to Sault Area Hospital and services are operating as per usual, and restoration is occurring,” wrote Brandy Sharp Young, SAH communications and volunteer resources manager, in an email to SooToday Sunday.

It is unknown at this time how many patients were relocated to SAH as a result of the fire and flood, nor how long restoration work at the detox centre will last.
