Demonstration continues to block International Bridge traffic (update: some traffic crossing)

Bridge open via Carmen's Way entrance. Protesters remain at main entrance off Huron Street

5:35 p.m. update

The International Bridge Authority has opened the bridge to traffic via the Carmens Way Entrance.

Original story: 3:20 p.m.

A demonstration at the International Bridge is preventing traffic from flowing south of the border this afternoon.

A small group of demonstrators began the protest early this afternoon. The demonstration comes after police moved in on a blockade on a rail line through Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory near Belleville, Ont.

The Tyendinga Mohawk blockade and another in Vancouver were set up in solidarity with Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs opposed to construction of the Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline across their traditional territories in northwestern British Columbia.

Police are monitoring the demonstration at the International Bridge. There is no indication as to when traffic will resume.

Northbound traffic on Huron Street was being diverted by police around demonstrators gathered around a vehicle near the corner of Huron Street and Albert St. West.

Southbound traffic on Huron Street was being diverted by police on to Albert Street West in both east and westerly directions.
