NEWS RELEASE

DEBBIE AMAROSO, LIBERAL MPP CANDIDATE

************************
Throughout this campaign, I’ve spoken about ensuring we capitalize on the next year by keeping our seat at the table of the majority Liberal government. We need action this year on protecting OLG and Essar jobs, working toward responsibly developing the Ring of Fire and continuing to invest in our hospital, schools, university, college and roads.

Unfortunately, both my opponents have preferred to muddy the waters with misinformation and with having their leaders come up from Toronto constantly. The thing is, their party leaders don’t know much about local issues. That’s why they’re bringing their Toronto talking points to our doorstep and getting the local facts wrong.

I want to correct the record about their false claims.

The NDP leader sure got it wrong when she claimed that Sault hospital laid off staff due to hydro rates because the hospital had to issue a response denying the allegation completely. It’s disrespectful to misrepresent the hard work of local hospital administrators to score political points.

This is the same NDP leader who tried to politicize the OLG decertification, which is completely irresponsible.

As for the PC candidate, he’s bringing his party leader around the Sault like a safety blanket. They both tell a tall tale about lack of funding everywhere they visit. But I suppose they didn’t do their research because all of the places they visit have received ample funding from the Liberal government.

For example, they were at the FJ Davey Home and claimed it’s been neglected by the government. Except, there’s been 278 new long-term care beds created in Sault Ste. Marie since 2003, 190 of which were at the F.J. Davey Home. You’d think they’d bother to learn about the facility they’re in rather than just pander for votes.

Similarly, Sault College and Algoma University have benefited from millions of dollars of investment from the Liberal government and schools across the city are being renovated, yet the Conservatives claim the government isn’t doing right by our community’s students. What more could the PC candidate do as a backbencher

Opposition MPP?

Both candidates have alleged the Ontario government pulled back its $1 billion commitment to the Ring of Fire - another complete fabrication. The commitment remains, and the government is continuing to work to negotiate with indigenous communities.

This isn’t my first dance; I know these guys are just playing a political game, hoping to gain your vote. But I’ve said it from the beginning and I’ll say it again: this isn’t about party politics, party leaders or silly political games — this is about the Sault, our jobs, our community, our people. That’s my focus.
