Deadline extended to apply for council boards, committees

Sault city hall looking for people willing to be appointed for two- to four-year terms

There is still time to put your name forward to get involved with local government.

The deadline to submit applications to serve on city council boards and committees in Sault Ste. Marie has been extended, the city said in a news release.

Appointments are for two- or four-year terms depending upon the board or committee.

Information regarding various committees is available here.

Boards and committees of council with members appointed by city council include:

  • Christmas Lighting / Hallowe’en Spirit Judging Committee
  • Committee of Adjustment
  • Committee of Revision – Local Improvements
  • Cultural Vitality Committee
  • Environmental Monitoring Committee
  • Environmental Sustainability Committee
  • Fence Viewers Committee
  • Historic Sites Board
  • Library Board
  • Municipal Heritage Committee
  • Ontarians with Disabilities Accessibility Advisory Committee
  • Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
  • Property Standards Committee
  • Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation
  • Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board
  • Tourism Board

Boards and committees to which council appoints members, but which are not boards or committees of council are:

  • Police Services Board
  • PUC Water

You can fill out an application form online outlining relevant expertise and experience. Application forms are available on the city’s website.

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act and will be held in strict confidence to be used solely for the purpose stated above, the city said.

Applications will be accepted by the city clerk until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.
