The Ontario Government is continuing to help seniors become more engaged in their communities, including through today’s Active Living Fair in Sault Ste. Marie, announced David Orazietti, MPP.

“Our government is committed to helping Ontario’s seniors stay connected and active, in order to ensure they can live healthy, engaged and independent lives for as long as possible,” said Orazietti. “Today’s Active Living Fair is showcasing a great selection of programs and services available to seniors right here in Sault Ste. Marie.”

The Active Living Fair is designed to help increase awareness about the programs and services available to seniors in local communities, and help Ontario’s seniors gain knowledge on healthy aging and lifestyles while also recognizing the many contributions seniors make.

The fair is coordinated through the Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario (OACAO) and is funded through the government’s Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat.

Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant Program is helping seniors stay connected through volunteer and community engagement projects across the province. Since the program’s launch in 2014, 546 projects have been funded. Applications for this grant are being accepted until March 4, 2016.

Investing in seniors is part of the government’s plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs.

The four-part plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province’s history, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan.
