David Orazietti to step down as MPP

David Orazietti announced this afternoon that he is leaving politics after 13 years as Sault Ste. Marie's member of provincial parliament.

The 48-year-old is leaving Kathleen Wynne's cabinet effective today. He currently serves as Ontario's Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

He will be stepping down as the Sault's MPP effective Dec. 31.

He told reporters this afternoon he will spend more time with family.

Orazietti made the announcement moments ago at his Great Northern Road office.

He told reporters he informed Premier Kathleen Wynne of his intentions following Wednesday's cabinet meeting.

A by-election will have to be held within six months.
