David Orazietti won't be giving up his day job as he hits the hustings this week in the provincial election called yesterday by Premier Ernie Eves.

Orazietti told SooToday.com last night that he'll continue as president of the local chapter of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation by day, campaigning at night and on weekends.

After we photographed Orazietti at his office at 224 Queen Street East, he headed over to knock on doors in the P-patch neighbourhood.

He estimates he's already visited 20 percent of the residential addresses in Sault Ste. Marie.

Orazietti says he got unofficial word of the election call around 11 p.m. Monday from party sources.

He immediately notified his campaign team, and it gathered at his campaign office at 6 p.m. last night to kick off Orazietti's bid to replace Tony Martin in the Ontario Legislature.

The phone number of the Liberal campaign office is 946-0550.

Other candidates

Tony Martin, NDP Bruce Willson, PC
