COVID-19 vaccine booster dose available in Algoma to those 50+

COVID-19 vaccine booster doses are now being offered to Algoma residents aged 50 and over.

A release issued by Algoma Public Health on Friday afternoon notes that APH, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, as well as participating pharmacies and primary care partners are ready to offer doses.

Algoma Public Health, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, and participating pharmacies and primary care partners are ready to offer COVID-19 vaccine booster doses to Algoma residents who are eligible.

To qualify for this booster dose, individuals must be aged 50 and over, and appointments need to be booked at least 168 days after a second dose.

Vulnerable populations, including those aged 70+, health care workers, those who received a viral vector primary vaccine series (AstraZeneca or Janssen), and Indigenous adults and their non-Indigenous household members, are also still able to book an appointment for a booster dose.

Although achieving high first and second dose coverage remains the focus of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination program, if you are eligible, you are highly encouraged to get your booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as an extra layer of protection. This is especially important with the ongoing high community transmission of COVID-19 in Algoma and the detection of the new Omicron variant of concern in many Ontario health units.
