The following is a running list of events, businesses and organizations that have announced cancellations, closures or postponements due to COVID-19. Please be advised that our monthly stroke support group meetings for both APRIL and MAY are CANCELLED due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We will be monitoring the situation closely and come to a decision regarding our June meeting at a later time. On behalf of the March of Dimes-Stroke Recovery Chapter team, we wish continued good health and safety for our clients during this difficult time. 

Due to the ongoing uncertainty around the Covid-19 virus soccer activities have been postponed. We will however encourage interested parties to visit our website for ongoing updates. We will shortly be opening the registration portal to new registrations until May 30. When available registrations will be accepted without requiring payment at this time. The United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District’s Harvest Algoma Food Resource Centre would like to announce the postponing of its first annual Canstruction competition due to the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID19 virus. 

LSFSC Catch the Ace Draws are temporarily suspended due to Covid -19 public restrictions and closures.
The public will be advised when it is safe for LSFSC to resume their Catch the Ace Draws as soon as the Ministry of Health lifts the COVID-19 restrictions and allows city facilities to reopen.

Fred’s Trailer Park in Richards Landing is closed till further notice by the Public Health. The park doesn’t actually open till May, but people like to come down and check out their lots - we have been told that they are not to be here at all. 

In the interest of public health and safety, Habitat for Humanity ReStore and administrative offices are closed to the public until further notice. Customers can check out our new online shop at https://habitatsault.ca/restore/shop/, where they can continue to find tax-free items priced at 50 per cent less than retail value! June and Friends Hair Salon is closed till further notice. You may leave messages and they will be checked and responded to. We will do all we can to keep you informed. Stay healthy and safe.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak the Journey Lottery draw that was scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at noon has been postponed to a later date. When the COVID-19 restrictions have ended we will advise as to the new draw date and the additional opportunities to purchase tickets prior to the draw. If you have already purchased a ticket and have any objections to this postponement please contact Terry Bos via email at [email protected].

Linda Cook, RPN nursing Foot care located at 51 B Great Northern Road (with BIOPED) has been closed since March 20. Her office will be closed until such time as given direction from Professional body, (RPNAO), Provincial/Federal Government and the local AHU to reopen.

It is with heavy hearts that the Musical Comedy Guild of Sault Ste. Marie has made the difficult decision to suspend our current production of The Addams Family.
Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and respecting the advice of public officials to “stay home”, we felt this was the most responsible course of action to protect the health and safety of our patrons, cast, and crew. Full refunds will be offered through the Sault Community Theatre Box Office at Station Mall for patrons who have already purchased tickets as soon as the box office reopens.
We hope to be able to reschedule this production and will share that news when we can. We appreciate your support in this very difficult decision. Stay safe.

The Special General Membership Meeting which was slated for March 31 at Branch 25 Royal Canadian Legion has been cancelled. Hopefully we will be able to host it on Tuesday, May 5.

The Algoma Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic will be limiting access to the clinic until further notice. All non-urgent appointments are being rescheduled or changed to phone appointments where possible. If you have an upcoming appointment scheduled, please be aware that it may be postponed or cancelled. Please refrain from visiting the clinic during this time. If you must visit the clinic, please call in advance. Everyone entering the clinic will be screened at point of entry. Our phones are operated from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Please be aware that call volumes will likely be increased during this time. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

The Wellness Store, OPEN. After consultation with Provincial Government officials, we have established that we can remain open as an essential service. Great Lakes Honda is taking to ensure that we continue to serve you, our community, safely. We have made the decision to close our sales department effective tomorrow March 25, 2020 until April 7, 2020. Our Parts & Service Department (for auto and small engine) will remain open Monday-Friday: 9-5 pm on an appointment only basis and closed on Saturdays. 

Ernie’s Coffee Shop has decided to close doors until further notice.

Superior Nissan will be closed effective March 25 until April 8, 2020.

Catherine's Hairstyling is closed until further notice. 

With the closure of the Drive Test locations in Ontario and the imminence of keeping the required social distancing, we have taken the decision to close Our Driving School as of today, Monday, March 23, 2020 until Monday, April 20, 2020. As a result, all in-class and in-car lessons will be cancelled till then. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. As things progress, we will keep you informed of any changes.

To protect all of our patients and our staff, as well as to limit the spread of coronavirus, Sicoli Chiropractic & Massage Therapy Centre will be temporarily closing our clinic, effective immediately. As per the recommendations of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, if you need to access chiropractic care on an urgent basis, please leave us a message at 705-949-1799, as we will be checking our voicemail daily. 

The OFSC trail system will be closing as of Saturday, March 21.

The Survivors of Loss By Suicide Peer Support Group will be cancelled on April 1, 2020. This peer support group will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.  Please check the events calendar on Sootoday for updated information regarding this group. 

Starting Friday, March 20, all City of Sault Ste. Marie facilities, including the Civic Centre, will be closed to the public. Read more here.

Effective immediately, the Food Bag Programme at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, at 136 Cathcart St., is closed indefinitely.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 has cancelled the Special Membership Meeting which was slated for Tuesday March 31, 2020 has been CANCELLED. The new date is (virus dependent) May 5, 2020. The office is open from 9 am to 1 pm daily and people can call 705-945-8721

At this time, the Social Service offices has taken precautionary measures to manage the spread of COVID-19 by implementing limited access to our buildings. We ask that all Ontario Works recipients contact our office by telephone or email if you require services during this time at Ontario Works - 705-759-5266 or email [email protected]. During our restricted access period, we are putting in place the following practices to ensure that Ontario Works recipients receive their monthly entitlement by March 31. All cheques WILL be distributed by mail – this means that there will not be any cheques held in office for pick up.

Northern Dental Care as directed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario has suspended all non-essential dental treatment until April 6 or until further direction is given.  If you have a true dental emergency please contact our office at 705-575-7572. Phoenix Rising Women’s Centre will be closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the safety and well-being of all, Keith’s Foot Care has cancelled all appointments amid public concern related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) is no longer accepting visitors as our staff are now working remotely. SSMIC employs over 50 staff and we feel this decision is best for the safety of our employees and our community partners.

The Treblemakers' concert series, “A Voice Of Hope,” has been postponed until further notice. 

Echo Bay municipal buildings have been closed due to COVID-19.

Ontario Parks will close until April 30.

Camera Craft has made the very difficult decision for the safety of our customers and staff to close effective Saturday March 21st. L&D's Art Gallery and Framing is temporarily closing their studio, beginning on March 20. The closure will run until April 4.

Following the recommendation from The College of Pedorthics of Canada, BioPed will be closed from March 19th to March 27th and will reassess at that time. We will, however, still be responding to e-mail and voicemails and will accommodate urgent concerns to the best of our abilities.

Jagg Unisex Salon in Churchill Plaza has been temporarily closed since March 17/20 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. They have closed to protect the safety of our customers and staff. They will re-open March 30/20.

In an abundance of caution amid public concern related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian Mental Health Association Sault Ste. Marie is closing its office effective Thursday, March 19. 

Effective Thursday March 19, Jories Fine clothing, located at 498 Queen St E. will be closed until further notice.

Effective immediately, the Police Services Building will be closed to the public due to the state of emergency declared by the provincial government regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are in need of police assistance and it is an emergency please dial 911. If you need police assistance of any other kind please call our business line, 705-949-6300.

Anishnabek Police Service will be closed to the public except for emergency situations.

The OPP has restricted access to detachments and other facilities.

Once Upon a Child is temporarily closing effective Wednesday, March 18 until further notice.

The Downtown Association Board of Directors and Staff, Under the Advisement of Algoma Public Health, and with the health of our Membership and Community at Large in mind, have decided to postpone The Annual General Meeting that was scheduled for March 25. We will be rescheduling this meeting once we have a clear indication it is safe to proceed.

For the health and safety of our customers and staff Hollywood Station Mall and Hollywood 216 have decided it is in the best interest of everyone to temporarily close for the next two weeks until March 31. Hollywood Station Mall will be open Tuesday only from 12-5 p.m. for any last minute beauty supplies you might need.

First Baptist Church has suspended all services and events until further notice.

Thursday Night Al-Anon meetings have been suspended until further notice.

Searchmont Resort will be closed for the season as of the end of Tuesday, March 17. Guests staying in the villas and chalets will be asked to depart from the resort by checkout at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. 

The office of Dr. Floreani, Dr. O’Toole, Dr. Dool & The Straightsmile Team are closed until April 5. Should you have an emergency or any other issue, please call the office as we will have a team member taking phone calls. Our doctors are available for emergency appointments where issues are unmanageable for you or your child during this time frame. Due to the mandate issued by our governing body, we can only see you as an emergency patient if: you have NOT left the country in the last two weeks (including Soo Michigan), or you have NOT been ill or around someone who has been ill with cold/flu symptoms in the last two weeks.

Case's Music has postponed all lessons until April 5. Mommy and Me Classes are postponed until April 29.

Armstrong Audiology & Hearing Aid Clinic will be following the direction of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and will only be seeing emergent or urgent cases. As of 8:30 a.m. on March 17, 2020, the Municipality of Huron Shores is suspending public programs and temporarily closing a number of public facilities to promote social distancing and limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community.
The following municipal facilities will be closed until April 5, 2020, inclusive:
    •    Ward 1 Little Rapids Community Centre (Iron Bridge)
    •    Ward 2 Sowerby Hall
    •    Ward 3 Iron Bridge Recreation Centre (Arena)
    •    Ward 4 Community Centre and Gym (Dean Lake)
    •    Huron Shores Public Library (Iron Bridge)
    •    All Committee meetings will be suspended

Jade Wellness will be closed until further notice, following the Ontario State of Emergency.

The Oddfellows & Rebekah's Humanitarian Loan Cupboard located at 124 Dennis St. will be closed beginning Tuesday Mar, 17/20 for an undetermined time until it's safe to resume business.  We would ask that anyone having equipment to return, that they refrain untill we are open again.  All renewals will automatically be renewed.

As of 8:30 a.m. on March 17, 2020, the Municipality of Huron Shores is suspending public programs and temporarily closing a number of public facilities to promote social distancing and limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community. The following Municipal Facilities will be closed until April 5, 2020, inclusive:

  • Ward 1 Little Rapids Community Centre
  • Ward 2 Sowerby Hall
  • Ward 3 Iron Bridge Recreation Centre (Arena)
  • Ward 4 Community Centre & Gym
  • Huron Shores Public Library
  • All Committee meetings will be suspended
  • In addition, public access to the Municipal Office and Fire Halls will be suspended until April 5, 2020.

Parkway Cleaners and the Quality Cleaners drop off at Rome’s will close at 6pm tomorrow until further notice.

Bodystream Medical Cannabis clinic will be closed to the public until further notice. All appointments will be made virtual from your home. Clinic staff will still be answering phone calls and emails if assistance is needed. If you have an upcoming appointment, staff will be reaching out to you shortly. 

Dr. Craig Kohvakko has closed his Chiropractic office at 75 Elgin St. and in Goulais River until further notice as per the College of Chiropractors recommendation to deal with COVID19. Superior Vision Care - Dr Tom Culina’s office is closed until further notice upon strong recommendation from the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Contact will be made to reschedule any appts previously booked. To arrange emergency care please call 705-759-0607 and leave a message.

Until further notice, Sault Chiropody Clinic has cancelled all non-emergent appointments as per the recommendations of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario. It is with much thought and consideration that the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has decided to cancel the 33rd Rotary Science Fair Algoma presented by Tenaris, originally scheduled for April 2 to 4, 2020, due to the current situation surrounding COVID-19.

Flowers With Flair will be temporarily closing: Following recommendations from the World Health Organization and to protect the health of our community, we will be temporarily closing the shop to the public. Algoma Family Services released a statement on Monday that some services have been suspended until further notice.

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA will be closed until April 6.

The Superior Health Team issued a release on Monday that all non-urgent appointments are being rescheduled and moved to phone appointments where possible.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie announced on Monday that all city recreation facilities, community centres and arenas are closed until further notice, beginning on March 17. The Civic Centre will remain open for normal hours while many city services will continue.

The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services, will cancel all non-urgent in-office appointments, as well as restrict building visitor access, effective March 17, 2020.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has made the decision to reduce its service levels in several areas and initiate closures and cancellations locally. Effective Tuesday, March 17 until further notice all City recreation facilities, community centres and arenas are closed until further notice. This affects registered programs, drop-in programs and rentals for the Northern Community Centre, Seniors Drop-In Centre, John Rhodes Community Centre, GFL Memorial Gardens, McMeeken Centre and the Ermatinger∙Clergue National Historic Site.

The Sault Ringette Club, in accordance with direction from Ringette Ontario, regrets to inform our members and community that all ringette activities have been cancelled until further notice. Beginning Monday, March 16, War Memorial Hospital will be implementing a screening process for all visitors to the hospital in addition to limiting points of entry. Public entrances will be adjusted with the implementation of screening. The south entrance near valet will have limited hours of 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., the Emergency Department will remain open 24 hours per day.

City cancelled Tim Horton’s free swimming that was scheduled for Monday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Ontario Soccer cancelled all soccer activities in the province until further notice. When it will be safe to resume practice and play you will be informed.

Open Ice 3-on-3 ice hockey tournament is cancelled. A full refund will be provided for teams who have already registered and paid. 

Dr. McGarry-Robert's office is advising that currently all in-person scheduled appointments will be carried out as originally planned. Extra measures are being taken to sanitize and disinfect patient areas. However, if experiencing symptoms or if more preferred, patients are invited to consider telephone or online video/telehealth sessions at the time of their appointment and notify via email in advance if this is your preference. We will monitor new information and health recommendations as they arise.

Sault Senior Men’s Hockey League has suspended the remainder of the season starting today.

Sault Ste Marie Gymnastics Club will be closed starting March 13 until further notice.

Algoma 4-H meetings have been cancelled until further notice.

1st Sault Ste Marie Extra Ops Girl Guide unit has cancelled meetings until further notice.

SOO Mission Expo 2020 has been postponed until next year. 

Program Read will be closed to the public starting at 4:30 p.m Friday, March 13 until Monday, April 6 at 9 a.m.

#30 Newman Navy League Cadets – effective immediately all activities have been cancelled until further notice.

Northern Heights Sports Club is cancelling the remainder of the indoor soccer season, as well as all scheduled banquets. 

Bellevue park run has been cancelled until the end of March.

The Algoma Fish and Game Club has reluctantly made the decision to cancel the 2020 AFGC  Children's Perch Derby.

The Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy has cancelled Friday's Word Tour Paddling Film Festival at the Sault Community Theatre Centre.

Kids in the Kitchen at Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle will be cancelled until school returns-approximately April 8 and 9.

The Soo Pee Wee Hockey League, following Hockey Canada’s direction, has cancelled the remainder of the season. This includes playoffs, banquets, practices and team parties/events.   

The Law Enforcement Torch Run has postponed the March 4 Twin Saults Polar Plunge in Sault, Mich.

Studio Dance Arts announced that classes will be closed from March 15 to April 6.

All publically funded schools in Ontario will be closed from March 14 to April 5.

The Group Health Centre is limiting access points to its main building at 240 McNabb as of Monday, March 16 and implementing assessment screening for COVID-19 for every one entering.

Lake Superior State University announced that effective Monday, the university will suspend all face-to-face instruction through at least April 17. The school plans to move to online/virtual classes. Algoma University says all classes continue to proceed as scheduled, but the school is monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation.

Cineplex is asking that "anyone who is feeling unwell refrain from visiting" its theatres.

The National Hockey League announced this afternoon that it has postponed the 2019-20 season, beginning with games scheduled for tonight.

In conjunction with the Canadian Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League season has been "paused immediately until further notice."
