Community grieves as Kayge Fowler 'no longer in pain'

Young Sault boy's battle with cancer comes to an end

Friday evening, Sault Ste. Marie lost its littlest 'superhero'. Young Kayge Fowler succumbed to DIPG, an extremely aggressive form of cancer.

He was diagnosed at just five years old a little over a year ago at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. Since then, the community has rallied around the family with countless fundraising initiatives to assist with medical and transportation costs.

This morning via Facebook, mother Mandy issued the following statement:

Last night, around 8:30 p.m., on his Papa’s birthday, Kayge ran fearlessly into the arms of our Lord and Saviour.

Our hearts are shattered, we have no idea how to begin to process what happened and how quickly. But I am so proud of him, and so proud to be his mommy. Up until his very last day, he did everything he could to make everyone around him happy. Yesterday he wished his papa a happy birthday and his last words to us was “I love you too”. He waited until both sets of grandparents and his siblings got to Toronto to be with him before he passed. Our perfect boy, is no longer in pain.
