Community Builders Awards: Zonta Club works to improve access to health care for women

This year’s Health Care Award recipient fights for gender equality in a way that benefits the health and physical well-being of women everywhere

The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie has served the Sault community for the last 43 years, supporting health for women through fundraisers and awareness campaigns.

The Zonta Club, run entirely by women, supports female health from a holistic perspective, engaging with projects that improve quality of life for women.

The volunteer club shines a light on issues that many are uncomfortable talking about but hugely impact the overall health and well-being of women.

They accomplish this through initiatives like preparing female hygiene kits, promoting ovarian cancer awareness and sharing information and local resources with women who have survived domestic violence.

The club also financially supports Women in Crisis, the Sexual Assault Care Centre and Breton House through fundraising campaigns.

The Health Care Award is presented to a group that has had an important impact on the health care of the community.

This award is proudly sponsored by the Group Health Centre.
