Community Builders Awards: Marek McLeod is a natural leader

Winner of this year’s Young Leader Award was instrumental in creating Algoma District School Board’s Northern Indigenous Youth Council 

Marek McLeod is a strong voice for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, in Sault Ste. Marie and beyond.

Throughout his time at Superior Heights Collegiate & Vocational School, Marek was instrumental in instituting the position of Indigenous Student Trustee and the school board’s Northern Indigenous Youth Council, for which he was the first elected vice-chair, then chair the following year.

He also served on both the ADSB Well-Being Committee and Indigenous Educational Committee.

Mark completed a summer placement as a Junior Policy Analyst for the Assembly of First Nations working closely with the National Chief.'s office.

He has further shown his dedication to bettering our community by serving for three years on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council.

Marek serves as an outstanding role model for young leaders in our community as he continues to represent our city’s younger population while paving the way for Indigenous representation in education.

The Young Leader Award is presented to an individual under the age of 25 who is actively involved in worthwhile community service and shows a commitment to making the community a better place for others.
