OPP investigate two vehicle fatal motor vehicle collision

JOHNSON TOWNSHIP - On September 10, 2016 shortly after 4 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TTCI) responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a car and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Highway 17 west of Desbarats, Ontario.

Investigation revealed that the eastbound car crossed the centre line, entered the westbound lane and collided with a westbound SUV.

The driver of the car, James Butchers, 34 years of age from Victoria, British Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 64-year-old female SUV driver from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, had to be extricated from her vehicle. 

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported her to a local hospital where she remains listed in critical but stable condition.

OPP were assisted by Johnson Fire Department and Bruce Mines Fire Department.
