COLE, Robert (Bob): 1946-2019

SooToday has received the following obituary from Northwood Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre for former Algoma District School Board teacher, vice-principal, principal and superintendent of education Bob Cole. Cole began his career with the board in 1971 and served the school communities of Lakeway, Bawating and Korah before stepping into his role as superintendent. He retired from the board in 2009.

Peacefully but unexpectedly passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on September 20, 2019, after a 16-month battle with Leukemia.

Beloved husband of Margaret for 50 years. Loving father of Beth, Jeff (Kelly), Jenn (Andrew) and Becky (Zach). Cherished bucka/grandpa of Samantha (Tanner), Victoria, Japhet, Ayanna, Anayah and Jachai. Great grandfather of Madelyn. Dear brother of Al (Betty), Barb, Ted (Gayle), Vivian (Mike), Ginny, Jim (Sheila) and the late Marilyn. Brother-in-law of Betty (Richard). Bob will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews and Casey, his canine companion. 

Bob began his career in Sault Ste. Marie as a teacher in 1971 and subsequently he became Vice-Principal and Principal. He enjoyed working with staff and students at Lakeway, Bawating, Korah and the Algoma District School Board where he retired as Superintendent in 2009.

Friends and family are invited to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705 945-7758) on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. David Zub officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated by the family.

A special thank you to Dr. Garniss and nurses Shea and Carla of SAH Emergency as well as Dr. Ghosh and nurses Carissa, Shannon and Lauren of the SAH ICU unit for their care and compassion, as well as the paramedics Brian and Aaron.  A heartfelt thank you to the team at the SAH cancer clinic especially Dr. Hill, and nurses John and Lawson.
