City seeks community input for on-demand accessible taxi service

SAULT STE. MARIE - The City of Sault Ste. Marie is required to consult with the public and persons with disabilities to determine the proportion of on-demand accessible taxicabs required in the community.

This requirement is in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act - Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) - Section 79.

Presently, there are no on-demand accessible taxicabs available in Sault Ste. Marie for persons with mobility issues who are required to remain in their wheelchair or other mobility device while being transported.

A public input session to receive community feedback will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Board Room, Level 3, Civic Centre, 99 Foster Drive.

A short presentation will be made at the start of the session to provide background information and explain the necessary process to become compliant with the IASR regulation.

Individuals unable to attend the input session may forward comments to Nancie Scott, City of Sault Ste. Marie Accessibility Coordinator, by phone at 705-541-7310, TTY: 705-541-2815 or email to [email protected]

Additional information regarding the requirements for on-demand accessible taxicabs can be found in the IASR Guide - Section 79 here.
