City preparing for significant snowfall

Motorists are reminded to drive according to the conditions and to give snow plow operators room to clear routes safely and efficiently

With the significant snowfall expected Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday morning, the City’s Public Works team would like to provide the following reminders. 

Staff will be working to keep the roadways safe and clear. Snow will be cleared first from the main and collector roadways. The clearing of residential areas and designated sidewalks will be delayed until the main roadways and collector roads are cleared and safe. This will likely take place during the night and into the morning. Sidewalks should not be blocked at any time in order to facilitate snow removal. Residents are reminded that the snow plowed to the end of their driveway during a significant snow events is their responsibility and may be more than usual. 

Garbage collection may be delayed or cancelled. Please monitor the City’s website and social media accounts for updates. 

Motorists are reminded to drive according to the conditions and to give snow plow operators room to clear routes safely and efficiently. Under By-law 77-200-5(14), parking of vehicles on city streets is not permitted during the winter months between midnight and 6 a.m. however, during a winter event, residents are also asked to not park on city streets during the day. This will assist in the efficiency of snow removal. 

Transit Services reminds riders to expect delays as a result of extensive snowfall and poor weather conditions.
