Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to Boreal French Immersion Public School on Friday afternoon after anti-mask protesters allegedly ventured onto school property and approached the building entrance.

"Algoma District School Board wants to make you aware of a situation that occurred at Boreal this afternoon," said an email sent to parents at 4:32 p.m.

A group of anti-mask protesters was demonstrating, mostly on the sidewalk in front of the school on Northern Avenue, the email stated.

"Unfortunately, a few individuals came onto school property and remained at the front doors of the school (outside) for a period of time."

"Sault Ste Marie Police responded and this situation was resolved within a short time."

"We wanted to make you aware of the situation, as your children may want to talk about it when they get home.  As always, student safety was our first priority."

"We appreciate your partnership during these challenging COVID times," parents were told.
