City plow catches fire (3 photos)

Firefighters are on scene

11:16 a.m. update:

Larry Girardi, deputy CEO handling public works and engineering, tells SooToday the plow operator was not injured in the blaze, which has destroyed the plow truck.

Girardi, who was at the scene of the fire, said the cause of the blaze is unknown, but may have resulted from a hydraulic line within the truck. Girardi noted that city snow plow trucks have seen extensive use in recent days.

Girardi said the plow truck, one of the newer trucks in the City of Sault Ste. Marie's vehicle fleet, cost $225,000.
