Apparently catching up on long-overdue paperwork, City Council will be asked Monday to formalize some Fire Services appointments made more than two decades ago.

Councillors will be asked to appoint Dan Fraser as fire prevention officer, 24 years after Fraser started working in that capacity.

Similarly, Rocco Celetti, Paul Antonello and Carlo Provenzano are expected to be appointed as fire prevention officers.

Celetti was actually appointed to fire prevention duties in 1999, Antonello in 2003 and Provenzano in 2004.

A second bylaw to be considered by City Council on Monday will retroactively appoint Stuart Cole as deputy fire chief for operations, training and logistics, effective Sept. 11, 2017.

A third bylaw will allow new Fire Chief Peter Johnson to delegate certain powers and authorities to deputy chiefs.

No one at Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services was available to answer questions about the pending appointments or weekend fire calls.

Under communications policy changes introduced this month by new Fire Chief Peter Johnson, enquiries may only be answered during regular business hours Monday through Friday.

SooToday will livestream Monday's City Council meeting starting at 4:30 p.m.
