City Council is considering dumping the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) as operators of Sault Ste. Marie's wastewater treatment facilities.

PUC Inc. is strongly interested in taking over the $1.6 million contract, and Ward 1 Councillors David Orazietti and Jamie Caicco are anxious to let the locally owned company make its case.

Council voted this week to ask OCWA, the PUC and City staff to address City Council on Nov. 4 about the Sault's wastewater contract.

Joe Fratesi, the City's Chief Administrative Officer, says we're one year into a five-year contract with OCWA, but the City has the right to terminate that contract on six month's notice.
